Introspective Imperfections S/S 2021

The concept for my collection will have a strong focus on ‘psychoanalysis’, a set of psychological theories and therapeutic techniques which were founded by Sigmund Freud. It is the method in which one is aware of one’s unconscious mind, and therefore, allows them to understand their deeper emotions and develop them into optimistic conscious outcomes. I aim to portray this throughout my collection by creating an aura of prosperity through influences from the Belle Epoque era, a term developed for the nostalgia of the simpler past before World War 1.

From 1871-1914 the living standards in France thrived and people started to enjoy their own leisure. It is through these influences that I shall create free flowing designs, exploring fabric manipulation techniques by the use of layering, lace insertion, tucks and ruffles, similar to those of the Belle Epoque era. At this time woman’s fashion developed an opulence, inspired by the hedonistic lifestyle of Britain's King Edward VII, and the feminine ideal of a ‘Gibson girl’, a fictitious character who was represented as youthful and strong, fun-loving, yet sophisticated, was at its rise. An elegant womenswear S/S ready-to-wear collection with a sensual feel, disengaging you from mundanity and transforming you into a state of awe and wonder.
