Kyokusen
My final collection is entitled ‘Kyokusen’, meaning curves in Japanese. A womenswear collection inspired by the beauty of traditional Japanese kimonos worn by geishas and the women of the imperial court. The kimono’s straight lines are manipulated to create abstract silhouettes which are inspired by sculptural forms. This fusion creates a contemporary aesthetic using layering, knotting, wrapping and fabric manipulation. Expect to see malleable drape and structured curves layered in light and dark hues. Subtle shades of clay and pink tones, informed by Anton Alvarez and Eva Hild’s sculptural forms, which are contrasted with deeper shades of red and monochromes for this A/W 23 collection.
Pleats on Pleats
A Womenswear S/S 23 collection inspired by traditional Japanese junihitoe kimonos alongside the sculptural fluid lines of ceramist Zhu Ohmu (Rose Wei), and the soft forms of sculpture artist Malou Palmqvist. Layered cartridge and knife pleats create sculptural, fluid and malleable silhouettes with twisting, layered and manipulated details and a soft colour palette.
In Charge
A Womenswear A/W 23 collection and collaboration with Sacai, exploring the fusion of WW2 heritage bomber jackets and traditional Japanese samurai armour. Investigating the details and shapes of armour and WW2 flight jackets, inspiring layering and details of tied fastenings, zips and press stud closures, padded shoulders and hips and fabrications including ribs and nylons.
