IS A CLASSICAL NAME FOR A NORTHERLY WIND
A knitwear collection drawing inspiration from many aspects of North East Maritime life. Initially inspired by childhood trips to Souter Lighthouse and tales of Grace Darlings heroism the collection looks deeper into the struggle of what it means to live in coastal isolation and the challenges both men and women faced to survive.
The collections silhouette is inspired by masculine fisherman gansays and life jackets which are reworked into asymmetric feminine silhouettes whilst still maintaining key masculine shapes.
Intricate knitted lace is brought into the collection and cleverly reworks the traditional cables used in the lighthouses heritage textiles. Highlighted through detailed embellishments, delicate ties and fastenings. The collection brings together all that is masculine and feminine in North East maritime culture.
‘Lighthouses are endlessly suggestive signifiers of both human isolation and our ultimate connectedness to each other’ - Virginia Woolfe
