Swaggin’ through security in those baggy sweats and gold chains, Travis Scott and Rihanna never looked more effortlessly cool. ‘GANGTERS IN AIR’ is an Autumn winter, unisex collection that draws inspiration from Hip-hop silhouettes, Royalty through the richness of the lace, high quality faux fur and embellishment - whilst Aviation is translated through bomber jackets, flight pants and key uniform detailing. Using reflective fabric as a finish throughout the collection can act as ‘showing off’ or to ‘get noticed’. The firm handle of the nylon against the soft, delicate lace is an unexpected combination. The collection dresses edgy, young female gangsters with a luxurious twist, inspired by the main muse Rihanna.
The collection focuses on skilled craftsmanship in the form of detailed hand embellishment, drawing from the three main influences. The use of crystals reflects luxury urban wear with constructed lace and woven garments overlaid with appliques lace panels and beading that reinvents urban camouflage in an innovative way. Menswear silhouettes provide a contemporary and more urban reflection of royalty rooted within hip-hop culture. Camouflage tones such as khaki. beige and black are extracted from the research for the colour way with accents of dusty pink and gold.
The inspiration and muse behind each piece remain true as the extremely fine lace juxtaposes with the gritty, masculine pieces musing Rihanna’s sexy yet boyish attitude. The ‘Badgal’ persona is translated through the contrasted use of lace and performance fabrics. Music being a major influence throughout the collection, both outfits could be worn in both Hip Hop/Rap music videos or at a red carpet event, embodying that ‘Rockstar’ image.
