Patina
The term 'Patina' embraces different meaning, it can be described as various forms on a surface of materials which have changed due to age, exposure, or a chemical reaction. It is also narrated as an appearance or aura that is derived from association, habit, or character. I want my collection to embrace an emotional attachment theory that explores my Italian heritage through 'The story of everything'.
I explore material culture to identify the effects of change and time to a garment when exposed to experience, material reaction and the embrace of the meaning of 'worn', of my developing concept. I want to embrace a structured silhouette that reflects a narrative, influenced from the idea of Patina while maintaining the level of sophistication and elegance of Italian culture. My concept focuses on embracing time and emotional attachment to my cultural identity. A narrative of me exploring my culture emphasising the Patina of affect and experience, manifesting memory, and the marks of change. In line with this, I explore the story of traditional Italian crafts as I begin my journey educating what it means to be Italian. This collection will focus on form and structure and how I can develop Patina and evolves a narrative, reflecting the notion of beauty.
