UPCYCLING. REPURPOSING.
Each element of my collection has been repurposed from charity shop garments. They have been given a new lease of life. I applied Charles Darwin's theory to my design work by creating a timeless collection that can be passed down to the next generation, almost like an adaptive trait.
Using second hand garments urged me to use sustainable practices in my approach to design. I was sick of seeing good tailored garments thrown into the charity shop never to see the light of day again. That is when I decided to use pre-existing garments throughout my collection. Deconstructing men's shirts, trousers and jackets and reconstructing them together with bar tacks and tailoring stitches. When I took apart the tailored jackets, I was mesmerised by the tailoring stitches on the inside and wanted to display the internals of the jacket on the outside of my collection.
